“The constant growth of Nosside Project (that, from 2005 has been part of the UNESCO World Poetry
Directory) firstly is the result
of an almost utopian cultural strategy.
This strategy is based on two identities:
multilinguism (open to all the languages
of the world, judged equally, regardless
of type, be they national, original, or minority
languages); and multimedia (access
given to the poetic imagination in
its diverse forms of expression, be
they written, video or musical
forms).
It is also the result of transparent
judging methods (the Jury doesn’t see
the names of contestants, but only assigned
numbers and letters)
that guarantee equal opportunities
to all the poets without distinction in
countries, continents, languages or race.
Finally, these results were made possible
by the intensive work of a staff that
have made this project their life. The
“soul” of this laboratory is the Center
of Studies “Bosio” (that, from 2005 has
been one of three Italian members of the UNESCO
Global Alliance for Cultural Diversities).
The laboratory is also comprised of overall
winners from past editions of the contest
(called Nosside Ambassadors) and the
members of International Jury.
Everyone works to diffuse throughout the world
an intelligent, serious, creative
and rich image of Reggio Calabria’s
great attributes, the city - seat of project
elaboration and promotion.
It is a global Project (“made in
Calabria”) also because of its choice
of symbols. In fact, it is dedicated to
the female poet Nosside of Locri from
III century B.C; its logo is a work
by futurist master Umberto Boccioni from
Reggio Calabria inspired by the classical
Greek world, and is decorated by a
creation of the goldsmith Gerardo Sacco
from Crotone, given to the overall winner”.
With these words, Pasquale Amato, project founder and president
of the Center of Studies “Bosio” of
Reggio Calabria concluded the presentation
of the results of XXII International Nosside
Prize, the only global poetry contest
in existence for unpublished works, showing
data that speaks for itself
(see www.nosside.com).
Participants at Nosside 2006 included male and female poets from
24 countries representing 4 continents
(12 from Europe, 10 from the Americas, 1 from
Africa and 1 from Oceania), presenting
works in 19 languages from Reggian
dialect to Amazon kari’na language. The
majority of works were in Italian followed
by Spanish and Portuguese.
“We are exalted by these results
– noted President Amato – this data highlights
the multilinguism and the equal treatment
of both popular and lesser-known
languages, and this is our primary
calling.
This is confirmed by the 1995 and 2006 editions of the contest:
in 1995, 97.3% of the participants were Italian
and only 2.7% from other countries;
in 2006, 56.43%-from Italy and 43.57%
from other countries”.
As regards the multimedia field, “for the first time
- added Amato- participants from other
countries presented multimedia works:
we had a song from Cuba, video-clips
from Basil, Romania and Portugal. This rice
up in participation to multimedia
field is also due to a partnership agreement
stipulated with CinemAvvenire Association
that guarantees the participation of Nosside-video
winners to the prestigious Rome Film
Festival and to Cinematographic Mostra
of Venice. It was once again made possible
thanks to the creativity of our permanent
laboratory team that works hard
to increase the participation to multimedia
field in 2007.
The task of the International Jury (President
Giuseppe Amoroso, members Mayerín
Bello Valdéz, Giuseppe Cardello, Clotilde
Grisolia, Rosamaria Malafarina, Angelo Rizzi
e Antonio Rossi; CinemAvvenire representatives:
Francesco Del Grosso e Guido Massimo Calanca;
Secretary Vincenzina Laganà, as well
as Segretary General of Bosio) wasn’t easy
in such articulated background.
A multicultural and multilingual
pool of Bosio assisted the Jury:
(Tiziana Barillà, Mariela Johnson, Stefano
Morabito, Paolo Moscato, Cibele Paim Batista,
Stefania Radici and Tatiana Vavachin) in
collaboration
with Graciela Moren, Valeria Pitrone,
