It started from Cuba, for the 11th consecutive year, the “Nosside Tour from Reggio Calabria to the World” (www.nosside.com). The founder president Pasquale Amato and the Italian Ambassador Domenico Vecchioni presented the XXV Nosside International Poetry Prize - the only global poetry contest for unpublished works – during the XVIII International Havana Book’s Fair in the Special Event’s Room of Cabaña Fortress.
The event was held by Edel Morales, deputy-president of the Cuban Institute of the Book and Director of the Cultural progam of the Fair. On behalf of the City of Reggio Calabria Assessore Amedeo Canale and the Secretary General of the Prize Mariela Johnson Salfrán took part to the inauguration, as well as some of the awarded cuban poets of the year 2008 and Miguel Angel Ribó, whose Poem-video “Príncipes del silencio”, music by Iván Domínguez de la Hoz, and winner of “NossideMusica” 2006, was shown during the presentation.
The Nosside Tour 2009 continued in the Greek ancient city of Lentini in Sicily, with an Event organized by Kiwanis Club and held in the suggestive XVIth century Church of the Carmine. The meeting was presented by Maria Grazia Culici, president of the Club, followed by a report from Professor Pasquale Amato and at the end a Recital by Giuseppe Cardello, Absolute winner of the prize in the year 2000 and Ambassador of Nosside, interpreted by the actor Giuseppe Galatà, together with the guitarist master Salvo Amore.
Subsequently, Nosside 2009 has travelled through the Atlantic, to be presented in New York in the frame of the Global Simulation Project for university students NMUN, wich started in the General Assembly Hall of the United Nations, and took place in the two hotels Sheraton New York and Marriott New York Marquis in Times Square. To the two events, on the side of President Amato also an attachè of the Secretariat office, Caterina Duca and the newly elected-Delegate of the Nosside Prize in the USA Yvelisse Fanith. A strong cooperation has been given also from the students of the ’University of Messina and the University for Foreigners “Dante Alighieri” from Reggio Calabria together with the Association Ideagorà from Catania, partner of the NMUN project.
The Nosside project has been presented to a large audience of Teachers and Students from all over the world and arose a widespread interest because of the uniqueness of the project.
Large appreciation has been shown for the new initative in occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the Project: the two Extraordinary Awards called “NOSSIDE SAVING LANGUAGES at RISK” meant to reward respectively a historic or anthropologic essay and a jounalistic reportage (written, video or photographic forms) to deepen the knowledge of the historical and cultural heritage of one or more native languages and minority languages in danger of extinction.
During all these meetings President Amato, beside mentioning the extraordinary results of the 2008 edition (participants from 40 States, from all continents with poems in 29 languages), has underlined the most important features of the 2009 edition:
“1. the preference for unpublished works that have never been awarded before; 2. the system of selection that guarantees the total impatiality of the International Jury (the members of the jury receive the poems marked with numbers and letters only); 3. the two strategic identities – being open to all the languages in the world, using the five official languages (Italian, English, Spanish, Portuguese and French) and being open to all forms of communication (written poetry, video poetry and music poetry); 4. the renewed website www.nosside.com; 5. “Nosside Tour from Reggio Calabria to the World”. From l’Avana to Brasilia on the 10th of June the Nosside project 2009 will be presented in different cities, will meet with poets, peoples, languages and cultures; 6. the “Nosside International Award to the Career”, assigned to personalities from all over the world that have highlighted during their artistic career the strategic identities of the project; 7. the Nosside Anthology 2009…multilingual and multimedia (book+DVD); 8. “The poets with Nosside, from the world to Italy”. After the deliberations of the International Jury, from different locations worldwide some poets will be invited to take part to the Awarding Ceremony of Reggio Calabria on the 27th of November, to the Study Seminar in Messina on the 28th of November and to the Meeting with the Press in Rome on the 30th of November”.
Amato has also highlighted the innovations connected to the silver wedding of Nosside:
“The first one will be the publication of the “25 years old Nosside Anthology (1984-2009)”, containing a poem for each of the Absolute winners of the Prize in its first quarter of a century.
The second innovation will be linked to the main prioritarian idea of the Nosside initiative for the protection of language diversity on the planet: the institution of “Nosside saving the languages at risk of extintion” with two Extraordinary Awards of 800 euro worth each for the authors that spoke in an unpublished work of a people that risks to lose its native language through: A) a historic or anthropologic essay or B) a jounalistic reportage (written, video or photos).
President Amato has underlined the “great strenght of the only Global Poetry Prize in the world as a dream that is coming true. A dream that is showing how much a fair and equal vision of the intercultural exchange can do. A dream that is charming more and more people all over the world with its poetry without borders of language, culture, and forms of expression”.
At the end he added: “In 2009 our utopia is becomin a reality, it will spread wider and wider - with the two Extraordinary Awards dedicated to the protection of languages at risk of extinction. Its global commitment to preserve languages and cultures of the native peoples and of minorities. If our action will lead to save even one of those languages we will feel proud of having given our contribution to preserve even a small part of the immense heritage of history and knowledges that all languages, even the less spoken ones, represent for mankind”.
